San Diego Dog Bite Accident Attorneys

Our San Diego Lawyers Advocate for Victims of Dog Bites

Recover for serious injuries you sustained in a canine attack

They say a dog is man’s best friend. However, abuse, neglect or training can turn a canine into a killer. Alarmingly, children are the most common victims of dog bites, and the wounds and trauma of a dog-bite experience can last a lifetime. Although children are the most likely victims, even a strong, healthy adult can be severely mauled by a dog.

Established in 1996, Sidiropoulos Law Firm, APC is totally dedicated to assisting injured victims in our San Diego community. Our lawyers believe in treating the whole person by making sure you or your child receives the medical care you need as we pursue your legal claim. Our team stands by you, offering emotional support during the difficult aftermath of a dog attack.

Facts about dog bites

Owners are liable for the actions of their dogs, with exceptions made when dogs are provoked, harassed or defending their owners. Sadly, an innocent child who has done nothing to trigger the attack is often the victim. These harrowing statistics highlight the dangers of dog bites to children and adults:

Dog bites are the second most common form of injury to children. The American Medical Association indicates that dog bites cause more injuries to children than playground accidents.

Almost 2 percent of the population (4.5 million people) in the United States are injured by dog bites every single year. The rate may actually be much higher, considering the vast majority of minor dog bites are never reported.

Males are twice as likely to be bitten than females.

In 2003, 3,423 postal carriers suffered dog bites.

Licensed dogs tend to bite more often than strays.

Each year, at least 20 people in the United States die from dog attacks and bites. Most of these unfortunate victims are children.

In 2007, three adults killed by dogs were older than 50 and at least six were younger than 10 years old. Some victims were only 18 months old.

Who pays for dog bites?

A dog bite can cause emotional suffering and physical damage. You may develop depression, anxiety, phobias and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) following the terrifying event. In addition, you may be left with scars, disfigurement, disabilities and pain. As a result, you may require expensive psychological counseling and extensive surgeries and rehabilitation. The owner is responsible for paying for your medical bills, lost wages and loss of physical functionality but may refuse to meet this important legal and financial obligation. Our personal injury lawyers can often recover compensation through the dog owner’s homeowner's insurance policy or by suing the negligent party directly for the damages to which you are entitled.
